A member of the scientific committee of the FEDE, Ylljet Aliçka, the ex-ambassador of Albania, based in Paris, lectures currently at the International University of Tirana. In the following interview he tells us more.
In the course of 2017/2018 what will be the nature of, and the issues broached, in your teaching?
The psychology of apprenticeships and the sciences of Education; the principal issue is to change people’s thinking and convictions, basically, to wage war against the “inertia of the school today”. The evolution of societies affects education, from which arises a certain number of questions: What should we teach our children? And why? What could education for citizens look like? These are the questions that I develop during my lectures throughout the year.
Do you miss being a diplomat?
I loved my role. For me, it was a moment in my life, but not a choice of profession; and this was for several reasons; first of all, I am not a career diplomat. The government proposed the post of Albanian ambassador in Paris because of my artistic career. (Following the French custom to offer these posts to “men of letters”)I therefore had the privilege, or the chance, to begin, and finish, my career in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was a marvellous experience, very varied, and full of surprises, but with time, (I was in the post for 6 years) I wanted to return to my first loves: teaching and literature.
Finally, which of the three do you feel yourself to be most of all, a novelist, a professor or a diplomat?
A little bit of all three, but obviously for me, the most romantic and seductive is the literary and cinematographic adventure. In reality, I would say that the three professions resonate with each other. They each have a link with communication (the diffusion of a message in space) and transmission (the diffusion of a message in time); more generally, I find the question of multiple professional identities very challenging. I find it to be very topical.
