The Centre Trainmar de Dakar was set up as part of the continuing education programme on maritime transport and ports, begun in 1979 by the CNUCED and the PNUD. Organisation and functioning of the institution are laid down in Ministerial Decree n° 0236 of 8 January 1992.

The centre aims to promote the maritime, para-maritime and port sector by boosting the qualifications of managers and senior agents involved in the management and organisation of maritime activities in Senegal.

The Centre Trainmar de Dakar has already successfully met the training and upskilling needs of over 2000 managers working in the transport, logistics and international commerce sectors.
