Spéos is an international photography school founded in 1985. Its programmes cover a range of photography careers including photojournalism and studio photography. Teaching is available in both French and English.

Spéos has an excellent reputation in the photography sector. It offers high quality programmes on its campuses located in London, Paris and Biarritz.

Thanks to its international vision, Spéos has developed close ties with a number of prestigious american institutions.

The institution’s international presence attracts overseas students from around the world as well as well-known photography professionals, who share their experience and technical advice during special lectures and seminars.

Spéos is also responsible for the conservation of the Maison de Nicéphore Niépce, where the inventor of photography Nicéphore Niépce took the first ever photograph. In 2013 the French Minister of Culture, sponsored by the French Academy of Sciences and Academy of Fine Arts, granted the museum the prestigious title of ‘Maison des Illustres’.

The FEDE is an INGO International Non-Governmental Organisation and a supranational institution that was created in 1963, which is endowed with participatory status with the Council of Europe. It federates an international network comprised of over 500 higher and professional education institutions in 35 countries across 4 continents, which share a common project that is hinged on academic excellence, pedagogical innovation, scientific research and openness to the world. The FEDE delivers 90 European degrees that are available in English and in the national language, from the Foundation Degree, the European Bachelor’s Degree, the European Master’s Degree to the DBA Doctorate of Business Administration. The FEDE counts an international network of over 180,000 alumni.

All of the institution’s programmes are international as they can be taken in Paris or London. Each year Spéos hosts the winter session of the American institution RISD.

  • Spéos' degree are certified by the State as Photographer RNCP level 6
  • The institution has created its own method for teaching photography – the Stop System. The same method is used in several American universities including Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
  • The institution provides programmes of varying durations in 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 5 month courses as well as internships in Biarritz and photo workshops in Paris.
  • Spéos offers programmes taught in partnership with major actors in the world of photography: Magnum Photos, Polka, Dominiqe Issermann and Paolo Roversi.
  • Teaching is available in French and English, attracting students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • The institution has an excellent student-equipment ratio; a large number of extremely well-equipped photo studios are available to our students outside of lessons and until 10 p.m. during the week, allowing them to work independently.
  • The institution can lend its students photography equipment (flash kits, telephoto lenses, batteries, video kits etc.) to use in the evenings or on weekends.
  • In order to keep up with the needs of clients and the market, Spéos teachers are all high-level, active professional photographers who are up to date with the latest developments in the sector.
  • At the end of each year the institution organises a large-scale exhibition showcasing the work of its students.
  • The institution actively supports its graduates, offering a dedicated range of services including free rental of the Spéos photo gallery in the centre of Paris to organise their photography exhibitions, studio rental, and inclusion in the school’s online directory.
